Blue stripe on the bumper tells them who’s side we’re on Next to the Gadsden I bought on amazon Bought a confederate flag down in Florida I’m just a rebel and I love America So you drive your pickup, I’ll drive my mini van We’ll fill up the gas tank, go to war with Iran We’ll buy flags from China, til America’s great again Our preacher had told us who we should all support We listened closely, took notes on who to deport Then we drove down to DC, hopeful to meet our muse Bought a red cap there, from a man named Jesus So you drive your pickup, I’ll drive my mini van We’ll fill up the gas tank, go to war with Iran We’ll buy flags from China, til America’s great again I fear my obsolescence You’ll see no acquiescence So you drive your pickup, I’ll drive my mini van We’ll fill up the gas tank, go to war with Iran We’ll buy flags from China, til America’s great again

Walzing Will was soft and sweet The way he waltzed was too effete For psychiatrists to think was fittin' So they said “Hey son, we think we should Sneak you a slug of raw manhood And the State Hospital's just the place to get one" Now they call him a queer sickie They herd him to group therapy They lock him up at night so he don't escape And if they hear any Gay talk A sizzle of electro-shock Keeps his fantasies in fascist shape They call it mental hygiene but I call it psychic rape! And he won't get no restitution Until we're dealing with the fact That all the mental institutions Are backed by a pack of straight white honky quacks They’re backed by a pack of straight white honky quacks! Now Dan Don Rose was kinda nuts But Dan Don Rose sure had guts To go cruising rednecks that sorry night Dan don rose he never thought Sure to bad but he forgot Stomping queers is their god-given right We were angry when they stabbed him We were angry when the police grabbed him They him quick and told him to behave While the doctors nurses laughed and jabbed him Morgue man slabbed and tagged him Now he’s dead there aint nothin left to say But his ghost is crying from an angry grave Let’s not just talk about revolution No demands without propound Theres just no end to the pollution Rise up and rip this goddamn system down Cause there ain’t no hope til it tumbles to the ground

Enough 03:10
There's no excuse now For what's been done We're second thoughts now When there’s money to be won How many times do I have to wake up to this How many times do I have to cry My heart is heavy with rage tonight My hands are ready to fight We've had our chances To get out of this hell We believe their lies Made up just to sell How many times do I have to wake up to this How many times do I have to cry My heart is heavy with rage tonight My hands are ready to fight

Fuel on Fire 04:49
50 years ago you knew this would come You fed us lies Now the time has come for reckoning Your greed with our need to survive Our lungs are burning at our own hands And we can’t get out of our way Profit clouds our path to repair Tomorrow’s questions need answers today Men in power orchestrated this Fueling disbelief It’s too late for staging arguments If our homes will know relief Our lungs are burning at our own hands And we can’t get out of our way Profit clouds our path to repair Tomorrow’s questions need answers today I imagined there would be a time We’d be less estranged Now the tides all refuse to recede And the seasons see no change Our lungs are burning at our own hands And we can’t get out of our way Profit clouds our path to repair Tomorrow’s questions need answers today

I was walkin’ just the other morn’ No one seemed hopeless They just had no time to care I wanted to shake them, Say what are you gonna do When it all crumbles And it’s too late to turn back I don’t know when, I don’t know how We’re gonna win Nobody wears a crown I met a woman, she told me that people believed They were all angry, but nothing ever changed And I met a man, he told me he just wasn’t sure Why it was so bad, he’d never really known I don’t know when, I don’t know how We’re gonna win Nobody wears a crown Greener pastures are always around the bend You’ll never see them if you don’t open your eyes Sunny weather is always a few days away You’ll never feel it if you never wake up I don’t know when, I don’t know how We’re gonna win Nobody wears a crown

I was standing by the window On one warm and sunny day When I heard the news cast rolling Ten more lives were taken today Can the circle be unbroken Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye There's a better way of living Where we don’t cry lord we don’t cry Lord, I saw the undertaker Busier than you should know And he took my little brother Long before his time to go Can the circle be unbroken Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye There's a better way of living Where we don’t cry lord we don’t cry I followed close behind them Tried to stand up and be brave But I could not hide my sorrow As they dug another grave Can the circle be unbroken Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye There's a better way of living Where we don’t cry lord we don’t cry Thoughts and prayers lord sure are lovely But they cannot tell me why no action has been taken How many more must die Can the circle be unbroken Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye There's a better way of living Where we don’t cry lord we don’t cry Can the circle be unbroken Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye There's a better kind of freedom Where we don’t die lord we don’t die

about

When Delaney settled on the name for this EP we all thought, or hoped, that 2020 might look different from what had come before. We hoped that Bernie Sanders might pull through to challenge Trump in the November election, and that the politics of that moment might precipitate the kind of change we desperately need in order to rise to the intertwined challenges of climate change, social injustice, and neoliberalism. That hasn't happened, and indeed worse things have come out of this year than we could have predicted.

In this way, 2020 by The Belle Curves emerges as a complex artifact. It is riotous, and solemn. Optimistic, mocking, and terribly sad. Through moving originals like Greener Pastures, we are stirred to imagine the emergent possibilities of this moment and its potential futures. Through reworked covers like Can the Circle Be Unbroken and Waltzing Will, we are reminded of the resilience of those who came before to whom we owe our collective hope. 2020, both the EP and the year, have surprised and challenged us tremendously. As we look forward to what comes next it is important to look beside us at the activists and artists who, like The Belle Curves, are also going through this too.
